We are excited to announce that Hoigaard’s has become an official sponsor of Team Gilboa. Hoigaard’s has made a significant commitment to Team Gilboa’s Jr. Race program and our team’s Video Education Project. Support in these areas will continue our strive to bring new athletes into the sport, provide the tools to develop talents and share the love of a life-long sport.
Look for new Jr. Race bibs this year on our four Sunday Jr. Race events (Jan. 21st, Feb. 4th, Feb. 18th, March 4th). Our biggest challenge will be keeping the bibs clean! Hoigaard’s has also offered to contribute to our famous “Jr. Race Day Lunch”. Finally, some of you have noticed one of our new Jr.Race coaches, CJ Hoigaard. We’re lucky to have CJ join our Jr. Race staff bringing over 10 years of instructing experience from Steamboat’s youth program. A big Thank You to Hoigaard’s.

This week Team Gilboa had 4 J3's at the Topolino Trials in Winter Park, CO. Lauren Samuels, Laura Strachota, Dylan Hagar, and Peter Albertson. Just qualifying was a big accomplishment and all four of these athletes work very hard! The field consisted of the top 19 boys and the top 19 girls from the Rocky/Central divisions.
We had 2 great days of training and 2 days of timed runs. The GS course sets were very steep with huge offsets making for some challenging skiing. All four athletes handled the situation and skied well. Leading the way in the results category was Laura Strachota with a VICTORY in the slalom!!! Laruen Samuels had a 7th in the GS and the 5th fastest time in the slalom on one run but felt the tip of her ski did not make it around one gate so she disqualified herself. This decision by Lauren cost her about 7 spots in the overall standings but we are proud of her for being so honest!!! Dylan and Peter finished in the middle of the pack for the boys and showed that they belong in the upper tier of the J3's on a National level. Both were only about a second from the leaders on a tough hill. Overall it was a great experience for all the athletes and we hope to get some more J3's at this event next year!!

Conway, Bryant named to Americas top 100 Juniors
In the most recent issue of Ski Racing magazine, Patrick Conway and Dylan Bryant were named to Americas top 100 junior alpine racers. Conway a Senior at Southwest High School and current Team Gilboa member has been skiing well this year. He is looking to ski at a DI school next year and is well on his way. He most recently scored a couple top ten finishes that produced good point results at the Lutsen/Spirit Mid-am. Dylan Bryant (TG alum) is now a freshman on the Western State ski team and is loving every minute of college ski racing. Congrats on the top 100 ranking Patrick and Dylan!!

Thursday was a good day for Gilboa athletes, who competed at the State Meet at Giants Ridge. There were many standout performances by individuals, and also by the teams they ski for.
On the team side for the men, Minnetonka skied to second place and Minneapolis Southwest to third. Both of these teams have many Gilboa athletes.
For the individual race, Patrick Conway placed 2nd and Brad West 4th, rounding out the top 20 was Johnny Meeker at 11th, Cj Johnston at 14th and Kurt Hager, who took a gate to the face on the second run and was bleeding profusely as he went thru the finish came 20th.
The girls had a bit of a rough time, especially on the second run, which proved to be a challenging course set. We had 4 Gilboa athletes competing in the individual race; with Meghan Kiesel 21st, Page Hammond 23rd, Maddie Strachota 27th and Sarah Reed Brown 33rd.
Congratulations to all the Gilboa athletes and their teams.
